The PDF SDK

Build applications supporting PDF file creation, editing and viewing using licensed Adobe® technology. PDF Xpress is delivered as both a .NET Software Development Kit (SDK) and an ActiveX SDK. It is used to create PDF documents, modify and reorganize existing PDF documents, access metadata, and more. PDF Xpress is frequently added on to Pegasus Imaging’s ImagXpress SDK when more robust PDF features and support beyond image-only PDF are required.

Edition Descriptions

• Reader Edition
  This edition allows application developers to read PDF documents (including the associated annotations and bookmarks), render pages, and extract content from PDFs. (The Reader Edition contains a subset of Professional Edition features.)
• Professional Edition
  This edition provides application developers the ability to create PDF documents and modify the PDF content, plus all of the Reader Edition features.

• Read all PDF documents, including any version PDF through 1.7
• Load PDF documents from file or memory
• Text extraction and use of PDF Xpress features to return location and context of text search results. (Extract text from Normal or Searchable Image PDFs then identify text matches using any desired technique. PDF Xpress will provide the context and location of the match phrase.)
• Export PDF annotations to XFDF (XML)
• Access document metadata, bookmarks, and thumbnails
• Render pages to Bitmap, DIB, EPS, or RAW
• Specify render options, including portion of page to render, target resolution, and bit depth
• Render large pages to higher resolution (e.g. for optimised display of large engineering drawings)
• Render copy-protected PDF documents where content copying and extraction is not allowed (commonly produced by legal and financial institutions)

• Create Searchable Image (Image with Hidden Text) PDF - using OCR Xpress with PDF Xpress sample code (PDF Xpress v2 provides the ability to construct an image-over-text PDF, using text output from OCR Xpress, and the associated image compressed by ImagXpress. This enables the developer to create highly compressed image-over-text PDFs, with searchable text.)
• Add, modify, and delete PDF Bookmarks, linking to locations within the document that can be displayed as an outline in Acrobat Reader
• Modify and write document metadata
• Add, replace, or delete thumbnails associated with a page in a PDF document
• Append, insert, move, or delete pages within a PDF document (e.g. to split one PDF file into multiple files, or merge two PDFs together.)
• Import PDF annotations from XFDF (XML) into PDF document
• Save PDF documents to memory or file
• Save Linearized PDF documents for rapid display
