PICTools

Advanced Compression Technology SDK

PICTools software development kits (SDKs) contain low-level C libraries offering advanced image compression, decompression, and editing. PICTools SDKs are strategically organised by grouping technologies together that are typically used in similar applications, including medical imaging, photo imaging, and document imaging.

PICTools was developed by Pegasus Imaging’s team of research scientists who specialise in imaging and compression technologies. Maximum code speed has been achieved through algorithm and machine code optimisations. PICTools has been optimised for several chip instruction sets, including Intel MMX, PIII, PIV, and IBM PowerPC.

PICTools technologies are supported across multiple environments, including 32-bit Windows, 64-bit Windows, Sun Solaris, Linux, IBM AIX, Mac, BeOS, and QNX. Pegasus Imaging optimises PICTools technology for performance in specific environments through the use of assembly programming and processor-specific optimisations. The underlying architecture of PICTools allows desired imaging functionality to be efficiently ported to any requested operating system with a common interface and operating convention.

PLEASE NOTE: Toolkits are sold separately for each operating system. For example, PICTools MedX for 32-bit Windows is a separate download, and is separately priced, from PICTools MedX for 64-bit Windows. The use of PICTools requires a licensing agreement with Pegasus. This requires a discussion with a Pegasus sales representative about your desired use of PICTools and the specific features for your application deployment. The PICTools toolkit remains in evaluation mode until the completion of an agreement with a Pegasus sales representative.

PICTools MedX
This software development kit (SDK) provides imaging technology designed to enhance medical imaging applications. PICTools MedX contains low-level C libraries providing the fastest compression and decompression engines available. It offers both lossy and lossless DICOM-compliant formats, including 8-bit and 16-bit greyscale. This SDK is ideal for both still image and video. PICTools MedX provides total control over image manipulation, compression, decompression, and conversion. PICTools technologies are supported across multiple environments, including 32-bit Windows, 64-bit Windows, Linux, Solaris, AIX, and more.

PICTools MedX provides commercially supported software development libraries for lossy JPEG, lossless JPEG, JPEG 2000, and JPEG-LS. Ideal for large medical images, this SDK also provides sophisticated imaging technology enabling engineers to design and build a JPEG 2000 JPIP implementation wholly in accordance with the JPEG 2000, Part 9 standard.

PICTools Photo
This software development kit (SDK) provides imaging technology designed to enhance photo management software, online photo services, kiosk applications, and more. PICTools Photo contains low-level C libraries providing the fastest compression and decompression engines and the most powerful photo editing capabilities available. It provides total control over image manipulation, compression, decompression, and conversion. PICTools technologies are supported across multiple environments, including 32-bit Windows, 64-bit Windows, Linux, Solaris, AIX, Mac, and more.

PICTools Photo provides commercially supported software development libraries for JPEG, JPEG 2000, JPIP, GIF, and more. Ideal for photo image editing, this SDK also provides advanced JPEG editing within compressed JPEG DCT space for red eye removal, auto contrast, auto colour level, colour image deskew, and more. Performing advanced JPEG editing within compressed DCT space avoids the generational loss and visual artifacts caused by decompressing and recompressing JPEG images.

PICTools Document
This software development kit (SDK) provides imaging technology designed to enhance document imaging, records management, and forms processing applications. PICTools Document contains low-level C libraries providing the fastest compression and decompression engines and the most powerful document image cleanup capabilities available. It provides total control over image manipulation, compression, decompression, and conversion. PICTools technologies are supported across multiple environments, including 32-bit Windows, 64-bit Windows, Linux, Solaris, AIX, and more.

PICTools Document provides commercially supported software development libraries for TIFF G3/G4, PDF, JBIG2, JPEG, JPEG 2000, and more. Ideal for bitonal document image cleanup, this SDK also provides low-level access to auto binarisation, auto border crop, dot shading removal, and more.

PICTools Fingerprint
This software development kit (SDK) provides imaging technology designed to enhance security applications. PICTools Fingerprint contains low-level C libraries providing compression and decompression engines, including the WSQ file format. It provides total control over image manipulation, compression, decompression, and conversion. PICTools technologies are supported across multiple environments, including 32-bit Windows, 64-bit Windows, Linux, Solaris, AIX, and more.

The FBI certifies PICTools Fingerprint meets the accuracy requirements in the WSQ Gray-Scale Fingerprint Image Compression Specification based on the results of the NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) review.
